Ahmani
Hi everyone! My name is Ahmani Slack and I am a third year English major! I've always loved writing since I was younger and I still have that love. I understand how difficult writing can be so I'm hoping to create a safe and helpful environment to get you through those assignments! I lean more on the creative writing side, things like writing poetry, short stories, plays, reading comics, and graphic novels. I love thrifting, going to all types of flea markets/pop ups, listening to music, binge watching shows, spending money on blind boxes, learning new languages, and learning about new people! I speak English and Spanish (but forgive me if it's a bit rusty). I'm excited to meet and work with all of you!
Amy
Hi everyone! My name is Amy, and I'm a second-year grad student in the RWS Graduate program (Professional Writing track). Writing has always been one of my earliest hobbies, because I want to connect with people as well as connect with other people's work. I know writing can be a frustrating back-and-forth process, but it becomes all the more satisfying when you discover why you want to express yourself and achieve that goal. Some of my personal interests in research are digital rhetoric, Orientalism, and niche historical fun facts. Outside of school, I enjoy working on future books, finding good places to eat, and watching baseball when I can. I look forward to meeting you and help you develop the kind of writing you want to express!
Anh-Thuat
Hello! My name is Anh-Thuat (pronounced like Antoine) and I am a graduate student working towards a Master's in Rhetoric and Writing Studies in the Teaching of Writing specialization. I am from the Los Angeles area, and earned my Bachelor's in English from CSULA as a transfer student originally attending SDSU for two years. I enjoy tutoring/teaching writing because I want to help people learn how to better present themselves in their writing. Outside of school and work, I build computers for anyone who asks, build mechanical keyboards, watch shows/movies/anime, and play videogames. I look forward to meeting and working with you at the Writing Center!
Birdy
Hello! My name is Birdy (they/them). I am a fourth year transfer student from Monterey pursuing a Dance major, History major, and LGBTQ+ Studies minor. I grew up speaking both English and Spanish (but my Spanish is a little rusty with underuse). Writing has always been one of my passions, especially short stories and research-based essays. Writing is different for everyone, and everyone has a different experience with it. It can be difficult, but it is not impossible to learn how to become a better writer. I hope to provide tools and skills to make everyone more confident writers. In my free time, I love reading, dancing, exploring farmer’s markets, and going to the beach. I look forward to working with you!
Clara
Hey! My name is Clara, and I'm a third-year journalism major with an emphasis in media studies and a French minor. I also speak Russian 🙂 My hobbies include writing poetry, discovering new music, and watching Seinfeld. As a San Diego native, I love to hang out in North Park, take my dog Misha to the beach, and listen to local bands perform at house shows and smaller venues in the area. My dream career would be working for an arts magazine as a features writer/editor, focusing on writing music/album reviews and investigating the connections between art culture and social issues within our community. As a tutor, I especially love helping students with rhetorical analysis, writing thesis statements, and creating outlines, but am well-versed in helping students with all kinds of writing and assignments! I hope that I can be someone that makes a positive impact on you as a writer and your writing process.

Ed
Hi! My name is Ed and I’m a 4th year student with a double major in English and Music education. I grew up in Ireland, but I've lived in San Diego for most of my life. This is my first year at SDSU and I’m really looking forward to collaborating with other students on their writing. My favorite authors are J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King, and Charles Dickens. Although I enjoy fiction, I’m usually reading autobiographies or something related to music. Outside of school, I play saxophone and other instruments in several bands, playing anything from jazz to rock. As someone who has benefited greatly from programs like the Writing Center, I understand how much of a difference they make and I want to be there for students in the same way.

Emilia
Hello! My name is Emilia (they/them) and I am a second year at SDSU. I am a journalism major with an emphasis in public relations. Some of my interests include listening to One Direction, trying new pasta, and coaching track and field when I go back to my hometown. Writing has always been a big part of me, back when I was writing cringey stories in middle school. I totally understand how hard it is to write and articulate thoughts onto paper, so I'm here for you!

I have spent the past 4 years at SDSU working towards my BA in English and French, and in this time my love for reading and writing has only grown. I love all types of writing, but I will be pursuing fiction and writing my first novel as a part of the graduate program. Aside from my academic and literary pursuits, I am a huge fan of crime and medical TV shows such as Criminal Minds, Chicago Med, and 9-1-1. I also have a little cat called Frank and I love to show people pictures of him, so if you are ever interested I would be happy to show him off. Nathan
Howdy! I'm Nathan, a graduate candidate studying Vocal Performance. My bachelor's degree is in English from the University of California, Irvine where I had a keen focus on Romantic poetry and literary theory. While at UCI, I wrote a thesis that combined my shared passions of literature and vocal music that studied how a poem transitions into an art song. That experience has largely contributed to why I'm studying music at SDSU. My graduate research has tapped into a newfound field of study examining affect theory in the realm of vocal music, with a specific interest in the transition from poem to art song to performance. When I'm not practicing or researching, you can find me exploring the food scene in San Diego. I'm always looking for recommendations, so if you see me, tell me some of your must-try locations. I'm looking forward to working with you!
Rachel
Hi everyone! My name is Rachel and I'm a first year graduate student in the History department. I have a BA in International Relations from UC Davis, where I worked on campus as a writing tutor. I'm excited to work with you to become a more confident writer!
